Your Guide to Beautifully Healed Lip
Welcome to your lip blushing journey! Achieving the soft, naturally beautiful results you deserve is a partnership between you and your artist. Your role is just as important as mine: by following these instructions carefully, you ensure a safe, smooth healing process and protect the beauty of your investment.
IMPORTANT: For safety, we cannot perform procedures on anyone who is PREGNANT or currently BREASTFEEDING. NO EXCEPTIONS.
Before We Begin: Your Pre-Care Checklist
Proper preparation ensures your lips are in the ideal condition to receive pigment, leading to better color retention and longer lasting results.
4 WEEKS BEFORE YOUR APPOINTMENT:
Pause Injectables: Any lip fillers must be scheduled at least 4 weeks away from your lip blushing appointment (either before or after) to ensure the tissue has fully settled.
Avoid Intense Skin Treatments: Postpone any chemical peels, laser treatments, or other intensive skin-resurfacing treatments around the mouth area.
1 WEEK BEFORE YOUR APPOINTMENT:
Protect Your Skin: Avoid direct sun exposure and tanning beds, as we cannot work on sunburnt or compromised skin.
No Lip Waxing or Threading: Please avoid any hair removal treatments around the lip area at least one week before your appointment.
Cold Sore History: If you have ever had a cold sore or fever blister, please consult your doctor about taking an antiviral medication (such as Valtrex) before your appointment. The procedure can trigger an outbreak if left unmanaged.
24 HOURS BEFORE YOUR APPOINTMENT:
To ensure optimal pigment retention, it is critical to avoid all blood thinners. This includes:
Alcohol and Strong Caffeine (your morning coffee or tea is fine, but please skip energy drinks).
Aspirin, Ibuprofen, Aleve, and Niacin.
Supplements like Fish Oil, Vitamin E, and high-dose "Hair, Skin & Nail" vitamins.
Please consult your doctor before discontinuing any prescribed medication.
ON THE DAY OF YOUR APPOINTMENT:
Come Comfortable: You are welcome to bring headphones to listen to your favorite music or podcast during the procedure.
Skip the Lip Products: Please arrive with clean, product-free lips.
Remember Your ID: Please bring a valid, government-issued photo ID. You must be 18 or older.
How to Heal: Post-Care Instructions
The aftercare process is the most critical step. Please follow these instructions carefully for the first 14 days to protect your investment.
What to Expect During Healing: The healing process is a journey with several stages. Initially, your lips will appear darker, fuller, and more vibrant than the final result — this is completely normal. Around days 4–7, the lips will begin to flake and peel. It is crucial not to pick at any peeling skin and to let it fall off naturally. After peeling, the color will appear very light — this is your normal "ghost phase." The true, soft color will gradually bloom back to the surface, with the final result visible around the 4–6 week mark.
The Perfecting Session (Your Touch-Up): Lip blushing is a two-step process to ensure perfect, lasting results. Your perfecting session, scheduled 6–8 weeks after your initial appointment, is essential. During this visit, we will assess the healed results, address any areas that healed lighter, and make final adjustments to the shape and color. This touch-up completes the process and ensures the longevity of your beautiful new lips. To keep your lips looking their best, we recommend a "Color Boost" maintenance session every 1–2 years. (Touch-up sessions are not included with your initial session.)
THE DAY OF YOUR PROCEDURE (DAY 1):
Blot Gently: For the first few hours, you may notice clear fluid (lymph) on your lips. Gently blot this away every 30–60 minutes with a clean, dry tissue or cotton pad. This step is crucial for preventing heavy scabbing and ensuring even color.
THE DAY AFTER YOUR PROCEDURE (DAY 2):
First Wash: Gently cleanse your lips for the first time as described below.
FOR THE NEXT 10 DAYS (MORNING & NIGHT):
Wash: With clean hands, gently cleanse your lips with a tiny amount of unscented, gentle soap and lukewarm water.
Rinse: Splash with water to rinse thoroughly.
Dry: Gently pat the area completely dry with a clean paper towel. Do not use a cloth towel.
Moisturize: Once fully dry, apply a very thin layer of the provided aftercare ointment to your lips with a clean Q-tip. Do not over-apply — less is more.
CRUCIAL RULES FOR HEALING (FIRST 14 DAYS):
NO swimming pools, saunas, hot tubs, lakes, or oceans.
NO strenuous exercise or activities that cause heavy sweating for 14 days.
NO picking, peeling, or scratching the lips. This will pull out pigment and can cause scarring.
NO direct sun exposure or tanning for 4 weeks.
NO eating oily, spicy, or heavily salted foods for the first week.
NO facials, chemical treatments, or laser near the mouth area for 4 weeks.
NO whitening toothpaste near the lip area during healing.
NO alcohol consumption for the first 48 hours — it can slow the healing process.
Understanding the Healing Journey
The healing process has several phases. Trust the process.
Days 1–3: Lips will appear darker, bolder, and slightly swollen. This is completely temporary.
Days 4–7: Lips may feel dry and itchy and will begin to flake or peel. They may look uneven or patchy. This is normal. Do not pick.
Days 7–14 (The "Ghost Phase"): As flakes clear, your lips will appear very light, as if most of the color has vanished. This is due to a fresh layer of skin healing over the pigment. Stay patient!
Weeks 4–6: The pigment will gradually resurface and bloom back to its true, healed color. The final result will be fully visible around the 6–8 week mark.
